Curriculum

The Curriculum is purely based on the needs of students. The Learning System centers on an individualize education system. Beginning from self-help to making the student as independent and self sufficient as possible, with emphasis on individual attention and care. The Students learn basics of daily practices like eating, grooming, socializing and so on.

They are given education through a check list programme, developed by the National Institute for the mentally handicapped.
Students in this Institution are grouped according to their chronological age, level and functional level :

  •    Pre Primary
  •    Primary I
  •    Primary II
  •    Secondary
  •    Pre-Vocational I
  •    Pre- Vocational II
  •    Vocational unit with 5 classes

Primary and Secondary Sections….. specialize in different areas like self help, socialization, communication and so on. The Sensory motor development teaches and trains the students.
Language development….. focuses on the speech and communication skills. psycho-social skills have an array of aspects like pencil control, reading readiness, number readiness, number of concepts, reading, perceptual training,? general knowledge, home training, handwork activities, music, dance, drama, etc.
Socialisation – A tie up with “Regular School”….. Twice a week, we give an oppurtunity to the students to mingle with the normal children. We also promote the children to join the “Regular School” after a particular period of training.

The students are subjected to long term goals.

The Institute captures the latest in techniques like:

  •    Functional assessment
  •    Checklist programming of NIMH for assessing the current level of functioning.
  •    Individualized Educational Programmes of Individualized Training programmes (IEP/ITP).

In a Year, a child is expected to achieve a certain level of understanding or accomplish a particular level of task.
In Order to achieve this goal, the student is given many short-term goals, and a lesson plan is prepared for the activities. The child succeeding in achieving 80 % of the long term goal? is promoted to the next grade. Thus he progresses from the pre-primary to the Vocational Unit, after which he is placed in a fitting job.
