Sports ang games promote and benefit both physical and emotional development of an individual. Sports and Games are given utmost importance in their daily activities.

 

Sports facilities: The institution also has a playground with facilities like slides, see-saw, swings, merry-go-rounds, etc. The Institution ensures maximum utilization of opportunities provided by other institutions and government towards the mentally handicapped. So, When the special Olympics was introduced in Kerala, The Institution ensured maximum participations by the Students.

 

EXCURSIONS…..FAMILIARIZING WITH MOTHER EARTH

Prime objective behind taking the students on excursion and picnic:

  •      To get them acquainted with the world outside their learning area
  •      To give them the necessary exposure so as to familiarize them with new surroundings and circumstances.
  •      To make them apply their theoretical knowledge and learning in day to- day life.

The students are taken on one day tours, to places of educational value, like the zoo, museum, etc; or they are shown latest movies as another form of entertainment.

 

How does the student benefit from this:

  •    Students enjoy these outings
  •    This proves to be both informative and entertaining for the students..
  •    They also learn some important disciplinary acts like taking tickets, handling money and? expenses, crossing      roads, standing in a queue, obeying traffic rules etc.

 

YOGA…TOGETHER IN MIND AND BODY

  •    Yoga has the power to sooth and calm the mind.
  •    It is also considered to be extremely relaxing for both body and soul.
  •    Sometimes if words and actions fail to give the mentally challenged students peace and solace, yoga succeeds.
  •    The students are made to practice yoga everyday.
  •    Practicing the breathing exercises specially freshens their body and minds.
  •    They feel healthy and energetic all day.

 

DANCE AND MUSIC…..BRINGING OUT TALENTS

The mentally handicapped students sometimes express themselves and their feelings best through dance or music. It could be their voice or reflection of life. Music and Dance lessons are an integral part of their daily activities.

  •    Through dance, the students potential and skills are evident and definitely worthy of appreciation.
  •    Dancing and singing competitions, Mimicry, Elocution, etc. develop their individuality and personality.
  •    Programmes like group songs and group dance encourage team spirit.

 

PAINTING AND DRAWING…..EXPRESSION ON CANVAS

These are also another form of expression for the students. Their proficiency and flair in painting and drawing are seen in the numerous competitions that are conducted from time to time.
