We at the Rotary Institute believe that many people with mental retardation are capable of working in a variety of full or part time jobs.
Our studies have shown that most employers are satisfied with the performance, work, attendance and loyalty of people with mental retardation.
The Institute identified that the reason for low employment rate among the mentally challenged:
- Lack of training in vocational and social skills
- Lack of encouragement from others
- Scarcity of community programmers that aid people with mental retardation in finding and maintaining employment.
The Vocational Wing has more than 35 students. The training programmes includes:
SCREEN PRINTING:We take orders from individual? and firms for all kinds of printing works like Letter pads, Visiting cards, Wedding cards,Greeting cards etc. Textile printing is also done here.
CHALK-MAKING:We get orders from various schools and a regular and prompt supply is ensured.
TAILORING:We stitch underskirts, petticoats and dresses used for surgery in hospital.
CARRY-BAG MAKING ( PAPER):We supply carry bags to chain shops like Style plus and services like NCC Canteen, etc.
ENVELOPE MAKING:We make good quality envelops and supply them to shops and institutions.
PACKING COVER: Paper covers made in the Vocational Unit are supplied to shops at reasonable rates.
SOAP-MAKING:We make quality bath soaps, too. The earnings from the sale proceeds are utilized for the welfare of the children of the Institute and a part of it is also given to them as incentive.
The mentally challenged students are acquainted with the different types of subjects and work, according to the aptitude, interest and capability.
Vocational Training…..what are its merits ?
- This system encourages the students to be engaged individually as well as in groups.
- It discourages idling and encourages time-spirit, even in the case of a severely retarded person.
- It helps to achieve self satisfaction, which is felt by the student himself.
